5 Marketing Tips For Beginners
If you are just beginning in the field of marketing you must ask yourself, what makes a great marketer? Creating a space in the market where others can identify you as an effective marketer worthy of company dollars is not an easy task.
A lot of people understand the importance of marketing but they do not understand the degree of importance. It can essentially make or break a company. It is your job to show just how important marketing is.
Here are a few areas you should focus on to get you started in the world of marketing.
Learn how your market thinks and solicit their business softly. If you can pick their mind and come up with ways to engage their reptilian brain, you are on the right track. This essentially controls how fast a consumer will react in an impulsive way. Therefore, you will see many companies use the phrases “buy now”, “subscribe now”, or “get it before it’s gone”. It creates a sense of urgency and compels the consumer to do whatever you want them to do. This only works if you apply emotion to the psychological stand point. Which brings us to our next tip.
If you didn’t already know, every decision that is made is based on emotion. When you learn how your market thinks you can better align your products, services, and marketing campaigns to the emotion your customer is most likely to use. This in turn can drive sales exponentially and tie a consumer to your business long term.
Be Creative and Analytical
A great marketer should aim to have both attributes. Be creative in a sense that your strategies are out the box and ground breaking. But have enough analytical skills to test and see if your strategy is working and what you can do to improve it. Great results drive sales, being at the forefront of those decisions and presenting strategic plans is what will set you apart.
Whenever you have free time you should take a few moments to research the marketing environment. Sign up for newsletters, blogs, and research other companies marketing plans. It’s important to always be up to date with whatever is happening in the marketing space, especially if you are into digital marketing. If you see a role you would love to have, read the skills needed and find someone already in that role on LinkedIn and look at their career path. It can be an eye-opening experience. I have a done this and have gotten great advice.
Finally, let’s look at networking. No, I am not talking about stalking people online just to garner relationships that are not real or to solicit jobs. That is not effective networking. Find online forums, meet-up groups, or workshops for what you are interested in. Go to conferences and expand your reach and learn from those who have been in your shoes. That is what you should to be doing and where you need to be. This is how you gain friends in the marketing world. Don’t be afraid to collaborate and share ideas.
These five tips are not a cohesive list of areas to focus on. There are many more aspects when it comes to marketing. But if you are beginner, I feel that these are some of the important ones.
