Social Media: Living In A Digital World
We live in a world that is consumed by social media. Before you get out of bed you are checking some form of it, whether it be Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, Pinterest, or Snapchat. This list can go on forever. But to put it short, digital media is the landscape by which we are all connected.
Social media is centered around the people and conversations being held in the digital world. The biggest problems for companies is developing that understanding of these platforms to be a part of the conversations as well.
Many times companies will try to handle their own social media by adding it as a side task , which may or may not work for them. A lot of times this doesn’t work because it is a job in itself. It’s essentially an extension of marketing. Hence the name “social media marketing”.
When it comes to social media, you need to learn how not to be robotic. It’s not just about posting pictures, content, or videos. You need to learn the audiences of each platform and strategize your efforts to match. Most social media users want to see the human side of businesses. They want content to also be relevant to them. You want to elicit an emotional response.
It’s not just enough to create posts that you think are engaging. You have to dig deeper and dive into the analytics. Create campaigns that target your specific audience and track results to make sure you are not wasting valuable resources and time.
There are many tools you can use that are already tied into the channels to track your efforts. You can even plug data into a platform such as tableau and create a plan from there.
Social media is the game that you shouldn’t ignore. Make it work for you, not the other way around.
